Fast Startup in Windows 10

Fast startup in Windows 10, also known as hiberboot, hybrid boot, or hybrid shutdown, helps our PC start up faster after shutdown. It is even faster than hibernate. This works by saving an image of the Windows kernel and loaded drivers to the hiberfile (C:\hiberfil.sys) upon shutdown. This way, when we start our PC again, Windows simply loads the hiberfile (C:\hiberfil.sys) into memory to resume our PC instead of restarting it. The fast startup setting doesn’t apply to Restart. We need to shut down and then start your PC again for fast startup to take effect.

Fast startup requires that hibernate is enabled. To enable hibernate, we will run CMD as administrator and then run the command: powercfg -h on

powercfg -h on command
powercfg -h on command

For more details check our article on how to enable hibernate in Windows 10.

Once the hibernate is enabled, we can check settings in Power Options (search for Power Options from Start menu or in Control Panel).
